Restorative Dentistry Services
Do you have a chipped or cracked tooth that’s worrying you? Perhaps you have discoloured or missing teeth that are impacting your self-confidence. Here at Knight Street Dentists, our restorative dentistry services revitalise your smile, renewing the appearance and functionality of your teeth. We provide restorative dentistry procedures such as; dental fillings, crowns, bridges, implants, and dentures. These dental procedures can be tailored to your situation to ensure the best possible outcome.
The most common type of restorative dental care, fillings are used to fill a hole (or cavity) in your tooth that has broken down due to decay, trauma, or fatigue. Filling materials vary in appearance, strength, and durability and are generally selected based on the size and location of your cavity. They can be made from composite resin (tooth-coloured material), amalgam (silver), porcelain, or in some cases, gold.
If you require a dental filling, we’ll first explain the process to you and answer any questions you may have. A straightforward procedure, our professional and friendly staff ensure you are completely at ease and comfortable at all times. We’ve even been known to sing to our patients, a technique that always brings a smile.
When a tooth’s structure is in the advanced stages of breaking down, the best restorative dentistry solution may be a crown. A dental crown is a tooth-shaped ‘cap’ that is placed over a tooth to restore its shape, size, strength, and appearance. Made from porcelain or gold, crowns are also used to support bridgework or restore dental implants.
Fitting a dental crown usually requires two visits. At your first appointment, our friendly team will take a mould of your tooth and, in some cases, give you a temporary crown while the permanent crown is being prepared. Once your permanent crown is ready, we’ll get you back in for it to be fitted, all in an easy, streamlined, and pain-free procedure.
A dental bridge replaces missing teeth with false teeth. Anchored to your natural teeth, custom-fit crowns, or implants, bridges are generally made from porcelain, metal, or a combination of the two. Often used as an alternative to dentures or dental implants, bridges are usually small, lightweight, and easy to adapt to.
If a bridge is the best dental solution for you, our gentle treatment plan generally requires two visits.
At your first appointment, we’ll prepare your anchor (abutment) teeth or crowns to ensure they are strong enough to support the bridge. We’ll also take impressions which are then used to make your permanent bridge.
Once your permanent bridge has been made, we’ll get you back in to fit it, ensuring that it’s comfortable and beautifully matched to your natural teeth.
Dental implants are essentially artificial tooth roots. Resembling the shape of screws, implants are positioned beneath your gums in the jawbone, where they bond with your natural bone.
Implants are used as posts or a base to support artificial replacement teeth, such as crowns, bridges and dentures. Giving a more natural feel, implants won’t slip or shift in your mouth, ensuring it’s easier to eat and speak.
The implant procedure comprises a number of visits, usually over a few months. An extended process, we understand this can trigger some anxiety. That’s why we take the time to explain each step to you, helping you relax and focus on how your implant will restore your incredible smile.
Dentures are removable false teeth that are custom-made to replace your lost or removed teeth. Made from acrylic resin, you can have either full or partial dentures – either replacing all teeth or just a few that are missing.
Helping you to keep the shape and form of your beautiful smile, if dentures are the best restorative dentistry option for you, we go above and beyond to ensure this treatment is as streamlined and stress-free as possible.
Custom dentures are a multi-phase process. The steps include:
